Is innovation a natural ability?

The following video takes a really interesting angle on innovation and open mindedness. Is puts forward that innovation cannot be stimulated or channeled but that it already exists and the best way to make innovation happen is by removing restrictions and structures. I can agree with it and think that education should concentrate on “extraction” and opening up rather than cramming information in a child’s brain. Memorising the curriculum should not been seen as the target of education and learning of subject information by heart is the wrong way to approach education. We should see the mind and it’s abilities as the main generators of ideas and concepts. The information thought in educational institutes should be the tools rather than the product. Anyway, have a look at the video and consider the train of though put forward.

Recent visits to BETT2010, the major trade show and a new foresight report funded by the EU, Learnovation have only highlighted my uncertainty. The Learnovation report will be the subject of a later post.
