Ramblers endorse Inventorium workshop activities

Rob Hanna & the group listening to industry presentations

Rob Hanna from the Ramblers Cymru commented ” It’s not often I leave an event feeling chipper! But I did after
attending the Inventorium innovation camp”

“No we did not light fires by rubbing sticks together but I did pick up some really useful tips on innovation development and some really useful contacts. The engagement process is sound and reminds me of some work I did a few years ago with Nottingham university. I was so inspired by the Innovation Concept, I contacted VisitWales new digital tourism programme manager and suggested it would make a useful pre application event to assist with sifting ideas which have no legs!”

Mobile Apps Workshop 1 – Bangor 8th December 2010

The first Welsh Mobile Apps Workshop was held in Bangor on Wednesday 8th December, with 35 intrepid entrepreneurs ‘understanding, thinking, & creating’ ideas for new apps.

“The workshop is designed to aid the creative process. We explore ideas for new mobile apps using new digital technologies. Our aim is to explore ideas that could become a new product or service, with teams taking forward their ideas and creating new businesses,” said Martin Owen, Strategy Manager, Inventorium.

On the Mobile App Workshop John Bamber, Venture Wales said,

“I came to the workshop to gain knowledge.  Creating new mobile apps could be a benefit to local SME’s.  The presentations were informative and the ‘Inventorium Poker’ card game sparked ideas.  I can see destinations in Wales working together to build apps for their locality.  The majority of tourism businesses in Wales are very small.  I can’t see them, in the short term, developing mobile apps because of cost.  This cost is multiplied up because of the multiple platforms.  Tourism businesses need to work together on apps to ‘up sell’ the destination – how about a Betws-y–Coes.app or a Llanberis.app?”

BETT 2010 and the Orenda spirit

Martin’s overview of BETT 2010:

A well known New York VC, Fred Wilson believes it is a good time to enter into the ICT education marketplace. I would love to believe him, however I think there is a lack of clarity on what the ICT education marketplace might be. I can see a reason for optimism and pessimism. Recent visits to BETT2010, the major trade show and a new foresight report funded by the EU, Learnovation have only highlighted my uncertainty. The Learnovation report will be the subject of a later post.
